CrabPotLog Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

This policy explains how CrabPotLog for iPhone, Apple Watch, Android phones and Wear OS watches, and the CrabPotLog website, handle information. Features and access arrangements may differ between platforms and app versions.

Information stored in the app

CrabPotLog stores your pot log locally on your devices. Records may include:

• Pot locations, GPS accuracy and timestamps.

• Pot names, drops, checks and pickups.

• Catch counts, notes and optional photographs.

• Record identifiers and source-device labels.

• App preferences.

• Companion-device identifiers and synchronisation confirmations.

CrabPotLog does not operate a developer-run server for your pot records. The app has no advertising.

Local storage does not mean information never leaves your device. Companion transfers, mapping services, purchases, iPhone analytics, device backups and sharing may involve Apple, Google or services you choose, as described below.

App analytics

CrabPotLog for iPhone uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand app usage and improve the app. Analytics information is sent to and processed by Google; it is separate from your locally stored pot log.

Google Analytics automatically collects an app-instance identifier, device information, app activity such as launches, sessions and screen views, and approximate location derived from IP addresses. Its standard iOS collection also includes Apple’s Identifier for Vendor (IDFV) when an advertising identifier is unavailable, unless IDFV collection is disabled. It can also record in-app purchase and subscription events, including product identifiers, names and prices. It does not receive your payment-card details or Apple Account password.

CrabPotLog does not set a custom Analytics user ID or send your name, email address, pot coordinates, pot names, catch records, notes or photographs as analytics events. Google Analytics does not use the app’s GPS permission to obtain precise location. Its automatically generated identifiers mean analytics should not be treated as completely anonymous.

The current Android phone and Wear OS versions do not initialise Google Analytics for Firebase. Google Maps, Google Play and companion-transfer services may nevertheless process information as described in their respective sections below.

We use Analytics for usage reporting, not advertising or cross-app advertising tracking. We do not use Google Ads, advertising features or Firebase Crashlytics. Diagnostic collection by third-party services, such as Google Maps, is separate from Firebase Crashlytics.

Google processes information under its applicable terms and privacy policies:

https://policies.google.com/privacy

https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

For questions about analytics or requests concerning your information, contact support@crabpotlog.com.au. Removing the app stops future analytics from that installation but does not automatically delete analytics already processed by Google.

Location, compass and photographs

With your permission, CrabPotLog uses location while the app is in use to mark pots and help you find them. Compass readings support direction guidance; the app does not record a compass history or provide a continuous background location-tracking service.

Camera access and selecting photographs are optional. Photographs added to records are stored as local copies on your iPhone or Android phone. Temporary copies may also be retained while preparing or saving a photograph. The app does not scan or upload your photo library to a developer-run server.

On Android, photograph selection uses the system photo picker, and taking a photograph uses an available camera app. CrabPotLog does not require broad access to your photo library for these functions.

You can manage available location, Precise Location, camera and photo permissions in your device’s Settings. Permission controls differ between platforms. Disabling permissions does not erase previously saved records.

iPhone and Apple Watch

Apple Watch Connectivity transfers log records between your paired iPhone and Apple Watch. These records can include locations, timestamps, catches, notes, identifiers, device labels and photo filenames.

Transfers may wait until the devices reconnect. Photograph files remain on iPhone and are not transferred to Apple Watch by CrabPotLog. This companion transfer is not a developer-operated cloud-storage service.

Android phones and Wear OS watches

CrabPotLog uses the Google Play services Wearable Data Layer to transfer log records and settings between compatible Android phones and Wear OS watches.

Transferred information can include pot locations, GPS accuracy, timestamps, catches, notes, record identifiers, device or installation identifiers, photo filenames, settings and confirmations that records have been saved.

Transfers may occur directly over Bluetooth or through Google’s network infrastructure when a direct connection is unavailable. Google states that Data Layer transfers routed through its cloud are end-to-end encrypted. Transfers may be delayed until connectivity is available.

Photograph image files remain on the Android phone where they were added; CrabPotLog does not transfer them to Wear OS watches.

This transfer service is not a developer-operated backup service. CrabPotLog does not provide direct log synchronisation between the Apple and Android versions, or between an Android phone and Apple Watch.

Apple services

On iPhone and Apple Watch, CrabPotLog uses Apple’s location, compass, mapping and App Store services. Maps and satellite imagery may make network requests to Apple, which handles information according to its own policies.

Device backups, iCloud Photos and other system services depend on your Apple settings. Map imagery is not guaranteed to be available offline.

Apple’s privacy policy:

https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

Google and Android services

On Android phones and Wear OS watches, CrabPotLog uses Android location and sensor services, Google Maps, Google Play services and, where available, Google Play Billing.

Google Maps makes network requests to display maps and satellite imagery. These requests involve the geographic areas being displayed. Google’s Maps SDK documentation describes collection of device and SDK metadata, IP addresses, a Maps-specific pseudonymous identifier, SDK crash information and, depending on usage, map interactions such as panning and zooming.

Displaying a pot location on a map can therefore involve Google’s mapping services, even though CrabPotLog does not upload your pot log to a developer-run server.

Android device backups and device-to-device transfers depend on your device, operating-system version, manufacturer and settings. They may include app records, photographs and preferences. Backup availability and completeness are not guaranteed.

Map imagery and Google services may require an internet connection and compatible Google Play services. Maps are not guaranteed to be available offline.

Subscriptions and free access

iPhone and Apple Watch

Apple handles subscription purchases and payments. CrabPotLog does not receive your payment-card details or Apple Account login credentials.

The app uses Apple’s verified purchase information, including product identifiers, acquisition dates, subscription expiry, renewal and revocation information, to determine access. CrabPotLog does not send receipts to a developer-operated server. Google Analytics can receive purchase and subscription event information as described in App analytics above.

To help prevent the initial free-access period from restarting after reinstallation, the app uses Apple’s verified original acquisition date when available. A device-only Keychain record also stores the earliest known access date and the latest observed time.

This Keychain record may remain after deleting the app. Its persistence and protection against repeated trials are not absolute, and the app does not provide a control to reset it.

Manage or cancel Apple subscriptions through your Apple Account settings. Apple retains purchase records under its own policies.

Android phones and Wear OS watches

Google Play handles purchases and payments made through Google Play Billing. CrabPotLog does not receive your payment-card details or Google Account password.

The app may process product and subscription-plan identifiers, purchase identifiers or tokens, purchase status and acknowledgment information to display plans, handle purchase flows and restore or check purchases.

Current Android phone and Wear OS testing releases provide full feature access without requiring a subscription. Optional subscription checkout testing is separate from this unrestricted access. These releases do not treat a checkout or acknowledgment alone as a verified paid entitlement, and CrabPotLog does not operate a developer-run purchase-verification server.

Google Play test purchases require the appropriate tester account and Google’s test-payment flow. A testing release does not, by itself, guarantee that a purchase is free. Follow the in-app warnings and cancel checkout if Google does not clearly show the expected test-purchase arrangements.

Android versions may retain local access-period and clock-check preferences. These are separate from Apple’s Keychain records and do not establish an account-wide purchase entitlement.

Manage or cancel Google Play subscriptions through Google Play.

On all platforms, deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Any existing subscription remains subject to the relevant store’s terms until cancelled.

Exporting and sharing

CSV export and photograph sharing occur when you choose them.

Exports may contain private fishing locations, timestamps, catches, notes, identifiers and photo filenames. CSV files do not contain the photograph images themselves and are not a complete restorable backup.

The recipient or service you select receives the information you share and handles it under its own policies. CrabPotLog cannot delete external copies. Review sensitive information before sharing.

Retention and removal

Logs and photographs remain in local app storage until that data is removed. Picking up a pot preserves its history. Renaming a pot or updating notes does not necessarily erase earlier stored events.

Deletion controls differ between platforms and app versions. In the Android versions, deleting a deployment or catch hides it from normal views and exports but retains underlying event history and associated photographs. These actions are not permanent physical erasure.

Where individual deletion controls are unavailable, records cannot be removed individually within the app.

To remove local app data:

• On iPhone or Apple Watch, delete the app and its data rather than offloading it.

• On Android or Wear OS, use the system’s app-storage removal controls where available, or uninstall the app.

• If you use a companion phone and watch, remove the relevant app data from both devices.

A remaining companion copy or restored backup may restore records. Manage device backups, transferred copies and exported files separately. Removing local app data does not automatically delete copies held by recipients, backup providers or platform services.

The iOS Keychain free-access record may remain after uninstalling.

CrabPotLog does not hold a developer-server copy of your pot log that support can access or delete remotely.

Contacting support

Contact support@crabpotlog.com.au for assistance or privacy questions.

The app’s Contact Support feature prepares an email that may include your device model, operating-system version and app version/build. You can review and edit the draft before sending.

No support email is sent automatically. Pot logs, locations and photographs are not automatically attached.

Support receives your email address, message, diagnostic details and any attachments you choose to send. This information is used to respond to your request and investigate problems. Email providers also process correspondence under their own policies.

Avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information. Contact support to request access to, correction of, or deletion of support correspondence we hold, subject to applicable retention requirements.
